This study was conducted to find out the perception of teachers on sex education for young children. Research subjects included 230 teachers of public and private kindergartens and public, private and home daycare centers located in City ¡¯P¡¯. Research tool consisted of survey questionnaire used in study by Jeong(2000), Choi(2000), Park(2004), and Shin(2008), and research analysis was based on SPSS/PC+ program including frequency, percentage and ¥ö2 verification. Through this method, we were able to gather three results. First, pre-school teachers perceived sex education for young children as needed to help them cultivate ¡¯a healthy recognition regarding sex¡¯, and viewed that educational infrastructure should be built, i.e., training for teachers should be conducted on sex education for children with systematic program development, so that appropriate sex education can be provided corresponding to the child¡¯s age and growth stage. Second, while children¡¯s stories were the most utilized teaching tool, puppet play was perceived to be the most effective method. Teaching tools for sex education was perceived to be greatly insufficient. Third, it was found that sex education was conducted three to four times per semester, and the appropriate age to begin receiving sex education was viewed to be approximately three to four-years of age. Thus, this study suggests that to conduct favorable sex education for young children, sex education programs corresponsive to the age and growth stage of children and teacher training programs needs to be developed with priority.
